FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction)

With this technique, which is currently considered the gold standard, individual hair follicles are extracted in the course of the hair transplantation in the operating theatre and re-implanted in the corresponding bald areas in the same session. This procedure is performed with special surgical instruments and under the supervision of an anaesthetist.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) refers to the removal, storage and implantation of follicular units (FU). The units are natural groupings of one to four (in rare cases also five) hairs, so-called grafts. This method is currently one of the most modern ways of hair transplantation.

These follicular units do not grow individually, but in bundles, and in FUE transplantation these hair groupings (usually from a small group of about 1-5 roots that naturally belong together) are usually removed from the back of the head with special instruments and transplanted.

The big advantage is that the removal site does not need to be stitched, it closes on its own on the same day. Small crusts may be visible for about a week after the operation.
